Shamita Ray - Philosophical Texts
Uncover the historical roots of yoga principles and practices while exploring their relevance in modern life. Students are invited to examine the ancient philosophies of yoga, encouraging them to reflect on their meaning and application as contemporary practitioners.
Shamita has been teaching yoga since 2010, delivering classes, workshops, retreats and training courses in venues all over the world. Thirsty to delve deep into the history, philosophy and language of yoga, in 2023 she completed an MA in the Traditions of Yoga and Meditation from SOAS. Her dissertation, titled "Cinmudrā: Origins, Evolution and Meaning", was subsequently published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Yoga Studies. She is particularly curious about exploring the historical roots of yoga principles and practices, while examining what it is to be a practitioner today, with the relevance - or not - of those ancient philosophies. Her sessions are engaging, inspiring and playful, driven by enthusiasm and the desire to share the discoveries she has made through researching, practicing and teaching yoga for over 20 years.
Aside from yoga, Shamita was a professional dancer and choreographer for twenty years, and most recently, has also branched out into charitable giving.
